LEVEL & NAME : PRE SACE - 2D STUDIES

COURSE LENGTH : One Semester

ASSUMED KNOWLEDGE : Nil

FUTURE STUDY : Stage 1 Visual Art

OVERVIEW

In Semester 1, this course covers an exciting range of approaches to drawing including basic cartooning, designing images, imaginative illustration and realistic drawing. Semester 2, focuses more on painting and printing and includes exploring the use of acrylic paints, fabric dyes and printing inks. Whether you are a beginner or wish to upgrade your skills prior to SACE studies this course will help you to develop your skills in a variety of materials and techniques whilst having fun developing your own creativity. Although students would be encouraged to undertake both semesters in preparation for Stage 1 2D Visual Art, each semester can also offer a good opportunity to enjoy discovering your artistic ability. 

 

LEVEL & NAME : PRE SACE - 3D STUDIES

COURSE LENGTH : One Semester

ASSUMED KNOWLEDGE : Nil

FUTURE STUDY : Stage 1 Visual Art

OVERVIEW

In semester 1, students learn all about the craft of hand-building with clay and create a variety of functional pottery as well as learning how to decorate works in different ways. In semester 2, the focus shifts to sculpture and learning how to create 3D artworks in clay, plaster, paper and mosaic using basic modelling, casting, carving and construction methods. Whether you are a beginner or wish to upgrade your skills prior to SACE studies, these courses will help you to develop your 'hands-on' creative skills in a variety of media and improve your knowledge of different approaches to working in 3D. Although students would be encouraged to undertake both semesters in preparation for Stage 1 3D Visual Art, each semester can also offer a good opportunity to enjoy discovering your artistic ability.

 

LEVEL & NAME : PRE SACE MUSIC - DON'T FRET

COURSE LENGTH : One Semester

ASSUMED KNOWLEDGE : Nil

FUTURE STUDY : VET Music Certificate 1 & 2

OVERVIEW

Are you interested in playing a musical instrument or singing but have not had a chance?

This course is an introduction to playing guitar, bass, keyboard, drums or singing. There will also be maths, literacy and ICT activitiies with a music focus. On completion you will be ready to study a VET music course.

 

STAGE 1

LEVEL & NAME : STAGE 1 - 2D STUDIES

COURSE LENGTH : One Semester

ASSUMED KNOWLEDGE : Basic 2D skills

FUTURE STUDY : Stage 2 Visual Art

OVERVIEW

These semester length, instructional courses will extend your skills in a specific 2D Art area; Drawing in semester 1 and Painting in semester 2. You will learn how to develop your creative ideas and technical skills whilst exploring a range of art materials.  Students will build up a folio of developmental work leading up to their major practical work, as well as a visual study which focuses on learning from the study of interesting 2D artworks by other artists.

If you are hoping to go on to Stage 2 Art (working in 2D) it would be recommended that you undertake both these courses to maximise your chance of success.

 

LEVEL & NAME : STAGE 1 3D STUDIES

COURSE LENGTH : One Semester

ASSUMED KNOWLEDGE : Basic 3D skills

FUTURE STUDY : SACE Stage 2 Visual Art

OVERVIEW

These semester length, instructional courses will extend your skills in a specific 3D practical area; ceramic pottery in semester 1 and sculpture in semester 2. You learn how to develop your creative ideas and explore a variety of techniques and materials. Students will build up a folio of developmental work leading up to their major practical work, as well as a visual study which focuses on learning from the study of interesting 3D art and craft work by other artists.

If you are hoping to go on to Stage 2 Art, working in 3D, it would be recommended that you undertake both of these courses to maximise your chance of success.

 

LEVEL & NAME : STAGE 1 COMMUNITY STUDIES - ARTS IN THE COMMUNITY

COURSE LENGTH : Full Year

ASSUMED KNOWLEDGE : Basic skills in a selected arts area.

FUTURE STUDY : Stage 2 Community Studies/Stage 2 Arts subject

OVERVIEW

This is a full year (20unit) course. Through negotiation with the teacher, you will develop an arts project with a community focus e.g. a mosaic sign developed in consultation with a community group, a musical concert performed for a community group. Any area of the arts (visual arts, music, multi-media etc) may be considered. A contract is developed around the selected project and assessment is based upon completion of the task, along with documentation of the research process and learning involved.

LEVEL & NAME : STAGE 2 VISUAL ART

COURSE LENGTH : Full Year

ASSUMED KNOWLEDGE : SACE Stage 1 Visual Art

FUTURE STUDY : Tertiary (University or TAFE)

OVERVIEW

This full year (20unit) course can be selected to complete your SACE Stage 2 studies and to achieve an ATAR score. Through negotiation with the teacher, you will develop a course of theoretical and practical work which extends your speciality skills and expresses your own ideas. Be ready to be self directed with this opportunity to test yourself as a visual artist! The focus will be on one practical area e.g. drawing, sculpture which developed over the year.

 

LEVEL & NAME : STAGE 2 COMMUNITY STUDIES ARTS AND THE COMMUNITY

COURSE LENGTH : Full year

ASSUMED KNOWLEDGE : Stage 1 Community Studies or Stage 1 Arts  subject

FUTURE STUDY : Tertiary studies (University or TAFE)

OVERVIEW

This course is an introduction to working in the creative industries with a focus on performing in a band, using drums, bass, vocals, guitar and keyboard. Rehersals and performance in the local community will constitute a simulated workplace environment. Basic work skills including OHS&W are embedded in the content.

 

LEVEL & NAME : CERTIFICATE 2 IN MUSIC

COURSE LENGTH : 1 year, 1 day a week (Tuesday or Thursday)

ASSUMED KNOWLEDGE : Certificate 1 Creative Industries

FUTURE STUDY : Certificate 3 in Music

OVERVIEW

This course offers the opportunity to further develop the skills and knowledge required to work in the music industry with a focus on performing in a band, using drums, bass, vocals, guitar and keyboard. OVERVIEW

This certificate investigates the creative arts industry focusing on Multimedia. Students work on CS5 on Macs to learn design processes to produce graphics for publication and produce and manipulate digital content.
